Birmingham Custom quotation system using VB and MS Access for electroplating and finishing client – specialising in aerospace industry. System uses hundreds of variables to calculate pricing for individual jobs and parts. Quotes can then be emailed and are stored to record follow-up activity etc. Analysis reports using Excel pivot charts directly reading the Access data.
Brooklyn Ribbon and Bow Ltd
MS Access/VB system for company that manufactures bows from different lengths of ribbons – buying making and selling worldwide: (a) The system stores customers/suppliers/stock/product prices and bills of materials – i.e. the breakdowns of which ribbons and the lengths required to produce each bow; (b) The user enters sales orders and the system looks up the prices. Customer order acknowledgements generated; (c) The system then automatically generates works orders detailing materials required and purchases orders if required; (d) As works orders are completed or part completed – stock levels of material used and finished goods are updated; (e) Despatch notes and invoices are produced and finally posted to Sage 50; (f) The system produces internal reports to show jobs in progress and external paperwork for samples and colour approval.

Processes slitting jobs and produces paperwork. Calculates theoretical and actual yields/scrap analysis and automatically updates stock with full batch traceability. Produces load list/delivery note and invoice which posts directly to Sage Line 50. Calculates and reports profit on each invoice.
King Edward VI Schools Foundation
Birmingham. (1) MS Access/VB application handling applications for analysing/allocating places according to test results. Linked to MySQL database populated by online applications. (2) Online application form feeding into MySQL database. (3) MS Access/VB library database to store teaching resources and process booking in/out (conversion from Btrieve). (4) MS Access/VB application to store rental properties/raise invoices/enter payments. (5) MS Access/VB personnel database. Calculates teachers pay from scales and allowances and one click updates to Sage Payroll.

2013 – Custom written MS Access/VB Application with SQL Server backend database to handle the company's job/order processing and stock systems through to dispatch and invoicing. Customer jobs are entered onto the system using the customer parts file and printed with bar codes. Jobs are processed through the factory and bar code readers update their location status until completion when the job card returns to administration. Despatch notes and then invoices are raised accordingly automatically applying the company's complex price matrices. Finally the company's Sage accounts system is automatically updated with the invoice details. Data was extracted and transferred from an old UNIX based system to the new system. Custom reports using Access and Excel combine data from Sage and the SQL Database. 2016 – Production scheduling capabilities added and linking shift analysis to Sage nominal posting. Quotations processed including conversion to jobs. Non conformance reports linked to jobs – recording and analysis. 2018 – Automatic creation of sub jobs based on Bill of Materials where subcomponent/assembly needed. 2019 – Transport scheduling added. 2020 – Customer parts stock added with shortfall reporting.
